A very basic explanation of computer virus is a program that can and will do bad things on your computer or electronic device. Computer viruses usually do one of a few things:

  • Steal your personal information (like bank and credit card details, passwords, email addresses, photos etc.)
  • Delete or change your personal information (like work documents, bank and credit card details, photos, phone numbers etc.)
  • Prevent you from using or opening your information (holding it to ransom until you pay someone money)

There are hundreds of thousands of different types and strains of viruses, also called (malware) that can do many different things – and all of them will be bad !
