Group videochat app Houseparty has been caught up in some controversy with claims that users’ social media accounts have been hacked after installing and using the app.

Across Twitter complaints have been flooding in of hacked Spotify, Netflix and facebook accounts; but these have been strong denied by the app developer Epic games which has issued a USD $1 million reward in return for any proof that Houseparty was behind any misuse of data.

Epic games say that the app does not collect, store or use any other account details apart from its own, therefore could not be the source of any breaches.As people like to think there’s no smoke with out fire, many user have been deleting the app; but inadvertently not deleting their Houseparty account.

Here’s how to do both in the right order:

Send an email to

In the subject line, type Request to Delete Account.

In the email body, list:

  • Your full name
  • Email Address
  • Houseparty App Username
  • Your phone number

Once the Houseparty support team has completed your request, they’ll email you back confirming that the account has been deleted.

Now, in the Houseparty app go to:

User > Settings > Privacy > Delete Account

The app will ask for your password and then confirm you really want to delete the account.

When all that is done, you can go back to the homes home screen and delete the app in the normal way.
